Supporting Children with ADHD: An Evening of Learning, Understanding, and Practical Strategies
Supporting Children with ADHD: An Evening of Learning, Understanding, and Practical Strategies
Last Month, Speech and Language Therapist Harmony Scott and Occupational Therapist James Gilmour were delighted to host an engaging presentation on ADHD in children, bringing together parents, caregivers, educators, and professionals to better understand and support children with ADHD.
Throughout the evening, we explored what ADHD really is, looking beyond common misconceptions to understand how the ADHD brain works and how this influences a child's learning, behaviour, emotions, and everyday experiences.
Topics Covered
- Understanding ADHD and the ADHD brain
- Executive functioning skills and why they matter
- Emotional and sensory regulation
- The importance of co-regulation before self-regulation
- Effective communication strategies
- Building resilience and confidence
- Creating supportive routines
- Practical, evidence-based strategies families can begin using straight away
Empowering Families with Practical Strategies
Our goal was to provide attendees with a deeper understanding of ADHD while equipping them with practical tools and strategies that can be applied in everyday life. By understanding each child's unique strengths and challenges, parents and caregivers can create supportive environments where children feel confident, understood, and empowered to thrive.
These evidence-based approaches can make a meaningful difference at home, in school, and throughout the wider community.
Thank You for Joining Us
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such thoughtful discussions throughout the evening. It was inspiring to see so many families and professionals committed to learning more about supporting children with ADHD through compassionate, informed, and practical approaches.
