The role

We are looking for an experienced physiotherapist to join our team at Health City East End. You will work on the hospital wards and in the outpatient clinic. The caseload covers post operative patients, respiratory care, some neurological presentations and mixed outpatient work, including musculoskeletal and cardiac conditions.

The role sits at the heart of Align’s partnership with Health City Cayman Islands. You will work independently to establish daily patient triage and treatment, prioritising ward, respiratory and post-operative need alongside the outpatient list. You will assess and treat patients on the wards after surgery and for acute respiratory needs, then progress them safely into outpatient rehabilitation so they regain movement, strength, breath and confidence in daily life. You will also treat walk in and referred outpatients who need pain management, injury rehab and preventative care.

Responsibilities

• Work independently to establish daily patient triage and treatment, setting priorities across the ward, respiratory, post operative and outpatient caseload.

• Carry out thorough, evidence-based assessments and create personalised treatment plans for ward, post operative, respiratory and outpatient presentations.

• Provide physiotherapy on the wards, including early mobilisation, post operative rehabilitation, respiratory care and neurological assessment and treatment.

• Deliver respiratory care for acute and post operative patients, including airway clearance, breathing exercises, secretion management, oxygen and ventilation awareness, and prevention of respiratory complications.

• Deliver early and ongoing rehabilitation after orthopaedic, spinal, cardiac, thoracic, neurological and general surgical procedures, working within surgical protocols and consultant guidance.

• Treat a mixed outpatient caseload including musculoskeletal pain, sports injury, mobility issues, neurological presentations, chronic respiratory and cardiac conditions, and return to work or sport.

• Use hands on therapy, exercise prescription, education and techniques such as dry needling, taping, myofascial release and joint mobilisation as clinically indicated.

• Explain findings, treatment options and progress clearly to patients and families so they feel informed and supported throughout recovery.

• Work closely with surgeons, physicians, nursing staff, specialists and the wider Align clinical team to deliver joined up hospital and clinic care.

• Plan safe discharge from the ward into outpatient follow up, home programmes and community activity.

• Help develop the internal team and contribute to education around post operative recovery and musculoskeletal health.

• Keep accurate, technology driven clinical records for every patient.

• Stay up to date with the latest research, techniques and best practice in ward based, respiratory, neurological, post operative and outpatient physiotherapy.

What we’re looking for

• BSc in Physiotherapy or an equivalent recognised qualification.

• Registered, or eligible for full registration, with a regulatory body accepted by the Cayman Islands Health Practice Commission — Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK (HCPC) or the USA.

• Proven experience in ward based physiotherapy, post operative rehabilitation and outpatient care.

• Must have respiratory physiotherapy skills and experience, including assessment and treatment of acute and post operative respiratory presentations.

• Neurological physiotherapy background, with the ability to assess and treat common ward and outpatient neurological presentations.

• Strong skills in manual therapy, exercise prescription, functional rehab and patient education.

• Able to work independently, use sound clinical judgement and manage daily triage and treatment priorities without close supervision.

• Confidence working on hospital wards and in clinic alongside surgical, medical, nursing and multidisciplinary teams.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to put patients at ease and motivate them through recovery.

• A genuine commitment to patient centred care and creating a supportive clinical environment.

• Familiarity with electronic medical records is an advantage.

• Experience in cardiac rehabilitation, critical care, dry needling, taping or sports conditioning is an advantage.
